Attractive pay, development and flexible working on offer
The profession of office administrators can certainly be challenging. In the offers, many employers describe the benefits with which they reward their work. Most frequently they hold out the prospect of an “attractive salary”. Other salary-related aspects also appear comparatively often, from retirement provision concepts through holiday and Christmas bonuses to company or product discounts (15.1 %).
In second place comes the offer to undergo further professional training and advance within the company. An interesting additional benefit, because in the field of office management there are many opportunities to specialize through further training or to advance professionally, for example to become a specialist or business administrator.
Other additional benefits relate to how work is organized. More than one in four specialists can arrange their working hours flexibly and receives extra vacation days on certain occasions. Employers also comment on the matter of on-site presence: a good one in ten companies offers the option of working from home to a certain extent (11.4 %). This share is rather low compared with the average for all employees in Germany. According to the Federal Statistical Office, a quarter of all working people work at least occasionally from their desk at home. Employers evidently have an interest in the specialists working on site instead.
The proportion of women in the profession of “office management clerk” remains high; it is one of the most popular vocational training among young women. According to the Federal Statistical Office, in 2024 almost two thirds of all office and commercial staff were women. In this respect it is surprising that only four employers offer childcare or corresponding subsidies. On the other hand, the share of positions in which specialists can choose whether to work full- or part-time is comparatively high.
The profession of office administrators is attractive and in demand. As more and more routine tasks disappear, it becomes even more demanding. Clever specialists take up their employers’ further-training offers in order to specialize and develop. In this way they acquire important know-how that is more important than ever in this working environment shaped by change.
